WCRD 2025 CV Jana Jakubíková

Jana Jakubikova is an Associate Professor of Oncology at the Cancer Research Institute, Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) in Bratislava, Slovakia. She leads the Department of Tumor Immunology at the Biomedical Research Center SAS and serves as the Director of the Cytoanalytics Laboratory at the same institution. Her research is primarily focused on elucidating the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of hematologic B-cell malignancies, with a particular emphasis on multiple myeloma and Waldenström macroglobulinemia. Her work also extends to the study of clonal heterogeneity and the role of the immune tumor microenvironment in these diseases, contributing to translational hematological research. Dr. Jakubikova earned her degree in biochemistry from Comenius University and completed her PhD in Oncology at the Cancer Research Institute in Bratislava. During her doctoral studies, she was recognized with three national awards for outstanding young researchers and was awarded a prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich, UK. Additionally, she undertook a PhD hematology fellowship at the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, and the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Vienna General Hospital in Austria. Driven by a strong interest in translational research, particularly in multiple myeloma, Dr. Jakubikova pursued postdoctoral research in Dr. Kenneth Anderson’s laboratory at the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center and the LeBow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics, both part of the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Upon completion of her postdoctoral training, she was awarded the Marie Curie Reintegration Award by the European Union, which enabled her to establish her own research group at the Biomedical Research Center SAS in Bratislava. Dr. Jakubikova is the author and co-author of over 60 scientific publications, which have collectively garnered more than 2,600 citations. She has served as Principal Investigator (PI) and co-PI on numerous national and international collaborative research projects. Her professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Hematology, the European Hematology Association, and the European Association for Cancer Research.
